Resort Wear for Your Honeymoon — What to Pack

A honeymoon wardrobe has specific requirements: it needs to photograph beautifully, feel luxurious, work across beach and dinner contexts, and — above all — make you feel like yourself at your best. Resort wear is built for exactly this. Here is exactly what to pack.

The daytime uniform

Comfort matters more on a honeymoon than people anticipate. Long travel days, unfamiliar climates, and full itineraries mean your daytime outfits need to work hard. A silk or georgette kaftan is the answer — it photographs like a fashion shoot, keeps you cool, and requires no thought. Pack two: one for beach days, one for sightseeing.

A co-ord set in a considered print adds variety without adding decisions. Wear together or split across other outfits.

Beach and pool moments

This is where sarongs and cover-ups earn their place. Lightweight, packable, and versatile — wrap as a skirt, tie as a top, or use as a beach layer. A white kaftan over a swimsuit photographs beautifully by the water.

Evening dressing

Pack at least two proper evening pieces. A silk dress or kaftan covers most dinners. For a special evening — anniversary dinner, sunset cruise — an embellished occasion piece in velvet or lurex makes the moment feel right.

Destination-specific advice

Beach destinations (Maldives, Bali, Sri Lanka): The emphasis is on swimwear and cover-ups during the day, with a more dressed-up kaftan or co-ord for sundowners and dinner. Silk and georgette photograph beautifully against water and sky. Pack at least two evening pieces — most beach resorts have dress codes for dinner.

City and heritage destinations (Udaipur, Santorini, Amalfi): You'll need more range. Resort kaftans and printed sets work for daytime sightseeing; add one or two more structured pieces — a silk dress, a tailored co-ord — for evenings out. Comfortable but elegant footwear is essential.

Cruise: Multiple contexts in one trip. Pack for formal nights, casual sea days, and port excursions. A mix of printed kaftans, one evening gown or silk coord set, and lightweight cover-ups covers all of it.

What not to pack

Anything that needs ironing is a honeymoon liability — you will not iron on your honeymoon. Avoid structured fabrics that crease badly in a suitcase. Silk jersey, georgette, and soft cotton all travel well. Avoid anything you've never worn before; a honeymoon is not the place to discover a new piece doesn't suit you.

Resist the urge to over-pack. The anxiety of managing too much luggage — especially across multiple islands or resort transfers — takes away from the experience. Ten to twelve pieces for a ten-day trip, with pieces that mix and match, is plenty.

Caring for resort wear while travelling

Silk and georgette can be hand-washed in cold water with a gentle detergent. Most resort hotels will wash and press pieces on request. Pack a small travel steamer — it weighs almost nothing and revives any piece after a long-haul flight. Store pieces flat or rolled rather than folded to avoid sharp creases.
