Lurex Tops for Women: The Edit
Lurex is georgette with metallic thread woven through it, so the top catches the light on its own and you need very little jewellery. The eight here, designed by Ramola Bachchan, are all loose with kaftan sleeves and all lined, so the sheer weave stays opaque. They come in two styles. Three are ombre-dyed with mirror hand embroidery around a V-neck, for evening events. Five have a pussycat bow at the neck and silver lurex florals, and run from bright daytime colours to a white-and-silver top for evenings.
Ombre tops with mirror embroidery at the V-neck
These three share one cut in viscose lurex georgette: a relaxed V-neck top with kaftan sleeves, tie-dyed so the colour deepens towards the hem, with small mirrors embroidered by hand around the neckline. The embroidery sits where a necklace would, so keep jewellery to the ears and wrists.
The pink is the brightest of the three. Worn with white trousers and silver heels it suits a festive dinner or an evening party, and the silver lurex shows up clearly against the pink.
The grey is the quietest. The cooler colour makes the mirrors look more subtle, so a metallic clutch or heels helps pick up the shine. The kaftan sleeves leave room for a fitted cami underneath if you want a closer line.
The green works best against something matte. Black trousers or a plain skirt let the shimmer and the mirrors stand out without competing with them.
Pussycat-bow tops with silver lurex florals
The other five are in lurex georgette with a pussycat bow at the neck, flowing kaftan sleeves and a lining. Silver lurex florals are spread over the fabric, and four of the five are ombre, so the colour changes from shoulder to hem. Tie the bow in a loose knot and the neckline needs nothing else.
The blue ombre runs from sky blue at the shoulders to deep blue at the hem. The silver florals stand out most on this one, which makes it the pick here for cocktail evenings and festive dinners, with white trousers and silver heels.
The pink and matcha green ombre is the softest colour here. It suits daytime parties and brunches, with white trousers, nude or silver heels and small jewellery.
The yellow and lime ombre is the brightest, a natural fit for haldis, daytime parties and holidays. Wear it with white trousers and gold sandals, and skip bulky bracelets so the sleeves can move.
The yellow and silver top keeps the sunny yellow all the way down, with the silver florals evenly spread. It is made for celebrations, from haldis to festive lunches; silver jewellery matches the lurex.
The white and silver top is the one for evenings. On a white base the lurex reads as a soft shimmer rather than a print, so pair it with plain black trousers or a solid skirt and let the bow and the fabric do the work.
All eight are dry clean only; our lurex fabric care guide covers storing them between wears. More tops are in the tops collection.
