What to Wear to India Art Fair 2027: Dates, Delhi Weather and Outfits
Knowing what to wear to India Art Fair 2027 means dressing for an art fair first: a day of walking gallery booths, looking at paintings, sculpture and design, and talking to dealers, artists and collectors, where the art world's quietly polished style sets the tone. Then come Delhi's February weather and the hours you will spend on your feet. This guide, written in October 2026, covers the 2027 dates, how the preview days differ from the public weekend, the weather, and what to wear by day and by evening, whether you are flying in from London or New York or driving across Delhi.
Quick answer
Dress in smart, comfortable layers: a co-ord set, tunic and trousers or a midi dress, a light jacket or cashmere wrap for the cool mornings and evenings, and flat shoes you can walk in for hours. Step up to silk or velvet for the preview days and evening events.
When is India Art Fair 2027?
India Art Fair 2027 runs from 4 to 7 February 2027, according to the fair's official website (see our India Art Fair 2027 visitor guide for tickets and getting there). That fits a clear pattern. The 17th edition ran from 5 to 8 February 2026 at the NSIC Exhibition Grounds in Okhla, New Delhi, and the 16th edition ran from 6 to 9 February 2025 at the same venue. The 2027 venue is not stated on the fair's homepage yet, so check its visit page before you travel.
What is Delhi's weather like in February?
February is one of the most comfortable months to be in Delhi, but it is not warm all day. The India Meteorological Department's climatological table for New Delhi (Safdarjung), 1991-2020 gives February a mean daily minimum of 10.6°C and a mean daily maximum of 24.2°C, with 21.5 mm of rain across the month on an average of 1.5 rainy days. The same table records an average of 10.9 days of fog in February, so early mornings can be grey and damp.
In practice that means a big gap between a chilly 10am arrival and a mild mid-afternoon, then a cool evening again. Dress in layers you can take off and carry: a light jacket, a cashmere wrap or a stole over a breathable base. Rain is unlikely, so an umbrella is optional; a scarf you can throw on is more useful.
What is the fair like: preview days and public days
India Art Fair describes itself as a platform for modern and contemporary art from South Asia, and the 2026 edition brought together a record 135 exhibitors, including 83 galleries, along with design studios and institutions. The official 2026 wrap-up says the fair "brought together galleries, collectors, institutions, artists, designers, organisations and visitors alike". That mix sets the tone: dealers, collectors and artists in conversation beside families and students.
The days are not all the same. For 2026, the official visitor page listed a BMW VIP Preview on Thursday 5 February (3pm to 7pm), a Select VIP Preview on Friday 6 February (11am to 7pm), and public hours on Saturday 7 February (10am to 7pm) and Sunday 8 February (10am to 6pm). The same page points visitors to Govindpuri Metro Station on the Violet line, close to the entrance, and to paid car parks at the gates. The preview days are when collectors and the trade come, so they lean dressier; the weekend is busier and more relaxed.
What to wear to India Art Fair by day
For a day walking the booths, you want clothes that look considered but let you move, bend to read a wall label, and carry a coat over your arm. Our suggestions:
- A co-ord set. A matching top and trouser in one colour is the easiest art-fair outfit there is: polished in a photograph, comfortable for six hours. Browse co-ord sets.
- Tunic and wide trousers. A long tunic or kurta over straight or wide-leg pants reads both Delhi and gallery, and keeps you covered on a cool morning.
- A midi dress with a layer. A dress in cotton, crepe or silk with a jacket and closed shoes works from the morning chill into the afternoon.
- A caftan over trousers. For international visitors who live in a caftan on holiday, a longer silk or cotton kaftan over slim trousers is a relaxed but elegant fair look in Delhi's mild afternoons.
Solid colours and tonal dressing photograph well against busy booths and do not compete with the work. If you love print, choose one printed piece and keep the rest plain.
“At a fair you are walking for hours and looking up at the work, so dress in one quiet colour, keep your hands free and let the shoes be the most sensible thing about you.” — Ramola Bachchan, fashion designer and founder of First Resort.
What to wear to the preview and evening events
The preview days and the dinners and openings around the fair call for one step up. Think silk trousers with a fluid shirt, a velvet jacket over a slip dress, or a sharply cut co-ord in a rich colour. Delhi evenings in February are cool, so velvet earns its place: it is warm, it catches the light and it reads festive without effort. Our evening wear and occasion wear edits are built for exactly this kind of night. If you are heading straight from the halls to a dinner, carry a statement earring and a pair of heels in your tote and change your shoes, not your outfit.
Shoes and bags for long days in the halls
With well over a hundred exhibitors to see, the most important item you wear is your shoes. Choose broken-in loafers, ballet flats, clean leather trainers or low block heels; avoid new shoes and thin stilettos. Closed shoes also make sense on a cool morning. Carry a crossbody bag or a small structured tote so your hands are free for a catalogue, a phone and a coffee, and so you are not swinging a large bag through crowded booths.
Art-world dressing: the unwritten code
There is no dress code at India Art Fair, and that is the challenge. The art world tends to reward interesting over expensive-looking: a beautiful fabric, an unusual shape or a confident colour says more than a logo. Keep makeup and hair easy, wear one piece of jewellery that means something, and let the work stay the most interesting thing in the room. For the general rules of gallery dressing, from daytime viewings to opening nights, read our guide to what to wear to an art exhibition; this page is the event-specific version for India Art Fair and Delhi in February.
